My personal favorite way to feed hay nets is in containers. I’ve put together some basic notes on how we created our hay containers, including both tubs and tires! Who Can Use These?
There is a way to utilize hay nets for just about any horse, in any situation. Whether you board or have your horses at home! Even if you cannot utilize a fully 24/7 feeding program, you can still improve your horse's situation with hay nets. Using containers means you can even create a safe feeding setup for your shod horse.

How Difficult is it?
Building these requires only basic handiness. You will need a drill, but that is the only real tool that is required. I don't break down creating these into crazy detailed instructions, but rather show you clear photos of all the different points that you need to think about, with information about how we have gotten them to work so well.
You can use a wide variety of containers, and apply these same principles for quick success!

Using the concepts that Rachel has put together, we were able to create a pretty enriching environment for our horses even though we board them in a "boring" sand paddock. We provide them with almost 24/7 forage, and have utilized her method for converting bins into hay net containers!

Most know me from my Instagram account @Nantucket_Blue. I've had my oldest horse, Tucker, since 2007 - we were 14& 4 years old when we first started our journey together. Growing into adulthood with a horse gave me a different perspective on life than most my peers, as I had to support him myself! I chose a college that would allow me to study Equine Science, because I knew it would help me to provide him with the best life possible. It was there that we met Trubee, who we officially adopted as Tucker's little brother in 2014. Fast forward to 2022, when we were finally given the opportunity to move onto land where we could all be together. So after 15 years of boarding at 9+ different places, we finally got to experience life truly together - and welcome the third member to the herd, our mustang mare Adee.
